macOS Accessibility Access

FocusMe needs accessibility access on macOS to monitor your app and website usage, and to block distractions when you need it.

Common Questions

Why does FocusMe need accessibility access?

FocusMe requires accessibility access to see your app and website usage on macOS, and also to block apps and websites. Without this permission, FocusMe cannot detect which applications or websites you are using.

Does FocusMe have control of my computer?

No! We are not sure why Apple chose to describe the permission in that way. FocusMe only uses accessibility access to record your time spent on apps or websites and to block where you want to. Nothing more.

Does FocusMe have access to my documents?

Absolutely not! Only application titles and website titles/URLs are monitored in order to provide usage data and blocking. Your personal files and documents are never accessed.

How do I grant accessibility access?

Open System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS versions), go to Privacy & Security, then select Accessibility. Find FocusMe in the list and toggle it on. You may need to click the lock icon and enter your password first.

What is your privacy policy?

We take your privacy seriously. Your monitoring data stays on your device. If you sign in, daily activity totals sync to your account, and Coach, only if you turn it on, receives the names of the sites and apps you used, with times. Full web addresses and page titles are never uploaded. Please see our privacy policy and terms of service for full details.
