BlockSite started as a browser extension, and an extension lives inside one browser: open another browser, or turn the extension off in the browser’s own settings, and that block is gone. BlockSite adds password protection, uninstall prevention and a desktop app that blocks across several browsers. FocusMe is an application: it blocks websites in every browser at once and any app or game on Windows, Mac and Linux.
BlockSite protects its settings with a password and can prevent uninstalling. FocusMe gives you four protection levels, from a one-click stop to Lock it Down, with typing challenges and waits in between. Enforced Mode goes further: while a plan runs it cannot be stopped or weakened, FocusMe cannot be quit, and the plan can only ever be made stricter. On Windows, a plan can also keep Windows Settings and Task Manager closed while it runs, and the Extra Protection Service keeps FocusMe running through restarts. On a Mac, a plan can also keep Activity Monitor, Terminal and the clock settings closed while it runs, so a schedule ends when it should, and Protect Uninstall keeps the app where it is. If you want a human in the loop, an accountability partner can approve a stop instead of a typing challenge.
BlockSite’s tools are Focus Mode, which blocks for a set time, and a schedule for the hours you choose. FocusMe plans can do that and give you a budget instead of a ban: 30 minutes of Reddit a day, a limit on how often an app opens, a cap on pauses, and screen breaks that lock the screen at intervals you choose.
FocusMe’s built-in AI Coach analyzes your daily usage and delivers personalized productivity reports with actionable recommendations you can apply with one click.
BlockSite’s website offered lifetime access for $39.99 “for a limited time” when checked, with a 30-day money-back guarantee; its iPhone and Android apps sell subscriptions in the app stores. FocusMe is $17.95 a month, $119.40 a year or $449 once, with a 14-day free trial and no card, and one licence covers 5 computers and 2 mobile devices. BlockSite costs far less; FocusMe is built for a block that holds.
If a reminder in your browser is all you need, at a low one-off price, BlockSite does that well, and its category and keyword blocking, redirects and Slack integration are handy extras. If you need a block you can’t talk your way out of, covering every browser and the apps on your computer as well as your phone, FocusMe is the one built for that.

Here’s what people who tried other blockers say about FocusMe:
“ Le meilleur bloqueur de procrastination et un développeur exceptionnel ! 10/10. Parmi tous les bloqueurs de sites web/de procrastination que j'ai essayés (Freedom, ColdTurkey, HeyFocus, LeechblockNG, etc.), celui-ci est le seul qui soit vraiment complet ! ”
Filip J. via Trustpilot
“ Il est beaucoup plus flexible que les autres que j'ai essayés (Freedom et Cold Turkey notamment), le seul que je ne parviens pas à contourner… ”
John Cremlim via Trustpilot
“ C'est le MEILLEUR programme d'auto-assistance informatique que j'aie jamais vu. Il est pratiquement impossible à contourner, à moins d'être un pirate informatique ou un programmeur logiciel chevronné. ”
Bryan Seare via Trustpilot
For a block that holds, yes. BlockSite is a low-cost extension with phone apps, password protection and uninstall prevention. FocusMe blocks every browser and any app or game on Windows, Mac and Linux, adds time budgets, launch limits and screen breaks, and has four protection levels plus Enforced Mode. If a nudge in one browser is enough, BlockSite costs less.
Any browser extension can be turned off in the browser’s own settings, and a browser without the extension is not covered. BlockSite’s password protection and uninstall prevention make that harder, and its desktop app covers several browsers at once. FocusMe blocks at the computer level, in every browser, and with Enforced Mode on a running plan cannot be stopped or weakened.
On iPhone and Android, yes. On a computer, BlockSite’s site describes its desktop app as blocking across browsers. FocusMe blocks any app or game on Windows, Mac and Linux as well as websites.
