Feature Request:
I would like to propose the addition of a valuable feature to the Focusme app that I believe would enhance its functionality and make it even more user-friendly. I suggest the implementation of a "Remote Unlock Request" feature.
Feature Description:
The "Remote Unlock Request" feature would enable users to send a notification to a designated contact, such as parents, guardians, or a trusted individual, requesting temporary access to blocked websites or apps and deactivate plans (temporarily or permanently). This feature would provide an extra layer of flexibility and accountability to the Focusme app, particularly for younger users or those who require external oversight.
Key Functionality:
User-Initiated Requests: Users would have the option to initiate a "Remote Unlock Request" directly from the Focusme app. This request would specify which blocked website or app they need access to and the duration for which access is required.
Notification to Designated Contact: Once the user submits a request, the designated contact (e.g., parents) would receive a notification through the app, email, or SMS, depending on their preferred notification method.
Approval Process: The designated contact would have the ability to review the request and either approve or deny it. They could also set a predefined maximum duration for remote unlocks to maintain control.
Temporary Access: If the request is approved, the user would receive a temporary access window to the specified content. The Focusme app would automatically reapply the restrictions once the approved duration expires.
Audit Trail: The app would maintain a record of all remote unlock requests and approvals, providing transparency and accountability.
Benefits:
Enhanced Flexibility: Users, especially minors, can request access to specific websites or apps for legitimate purposes, such as educational research or communication with peers.
Parental Oversight: Parents and guardians can maintain control over their child's internet usage while allowing for exceptions when necessary.
Accountability: The app would promote responsible internet habits by requiring users to request access instead of trying to circumvent restrictions.
Improved Communication: This feature encourages communication between users and their trusted contacts, fostering a more transparent online environment.
The addition of a "Remote Unlock Request" feature aligns with Focusme's mission to help users stay focused and productive while fostering healthy internet habits. It enhances the app's utility for a wider range of users, including families and individuals who seek to balance online activity with responsible usage.
I believe this feature would greatly benefit Focusme users by combining the app's powerful blocking capabilities with the flexibility of occasional overrides under the supervision of trusted individuals. Thank you for considering this suggestion, and I look forward to seeing Focusme continue to evolve as an invaluable productivity tool.
